We got up to the second floor of the Intercontinental hotel on September 7th before Ben & Staci’s wedding in Kansas City, and despite it being fairly early in the day, we heard music playing and obvious merriment happening somewhere close. While we can’t be sure it was Ben and his buddies, we had a sneaking suspicion. Staci had decided she wanted to get ready in complete privacy, and so we were arriving just as she would come surprise her bridesmaids and family members. With anticipation, her father popped the champagne and the girls (and bridesman!) eagerly awaited her arrival.

And there she was. She was glowing. Staci could hardly contain her excitement as she walked in the room to audible gasps from her friends and family. She spent time hugging everyone, trying her hardest to hold back the tears through bouts of squeals and laughter.

As her wedding photographer, I wasn’t paying attention to every word spoken that morning, but I could definitely feel it. While I have to sometimes tune out individual conversations in order to focus on the scene, the feeling running throughout the hours before the ceremony starts is palpable, and I do my very best to transmit those feelings into photographs; their story, which they’ll tell and relive for years and years.

Ben and Staci were wed in a Catholic ceremony that afternoon. They didn’t hold back emotion (much to their photographers’ delight of course), and their beaming smiles afterwards told the entire story. As they danced the night away, sung their hearts out with their fabulous live band, and munched on a late night McDonalds snack, they began their most important adventure to date. Cheers to a lifetime of laughter, happy tears, and long-lasting love, Staci and Ben!
