I remember when Lisa and Greg’s coordinator Abby (whose wedding I shot here) called me with a desperate plea for a wedding photographer only a couple months from the date. She mentioned “Flint Hills” and I’m pretty sure I hopped out of my seat, ecstatic about the opportunity to shoot in one of Kansas’ most beautiful areas. Thankfully, my Saturday was opening as I had a wedding on Friday, so bride Lisa and I connected, and the rest is history! My second shooter (and fabulous friend) Kristina and I drove out to the Manhattan area Saturday morning for the 12 hour day, and while it was hot, it really was a gorgeous day for a wedding. The ceremony was held at Lisa’s family home, River Creek Farms, in the heart of the Flint Hills and only a hop away from Manhattan, where they held their reception at the Bluemont Hotel. Their home from the late 1800’s was everything I hoped it would be; a gorgeous stone house in a valley of the Flint Hills, with trees surrounding that had to be hundreds of years old. It was like a storybook, and I am absolutely honored to have been welcomed in to their home to photograph their beautiful wedding. Below is a selection of favorites from Lisa and Greg’s beautiful Flint Hills and Bluemont Hotel wedding!
I can’t get enough of Lisa’s gorgeous Pearl ring!
Their little pup thought the day was his; and made quite the fuss when he found out it wasn’t.
I just love Lisa’s wildflower bridal crown! It fit with her personality and the wedding just perfectly.
This first look with Lisa’s mom will go down as one of my favorite mother-daughter moments. I love the way she hugs her daughter…so sweet!
We drove down the road to one of the Mertz families barns; a gorgeous stone barn built in the 1800’s. This barn is a local legend and every year is host to a farm to table event (Feast of the Fields) that draws people from all over the state.
This is what I meant by the wedding feeling like a storybook. Lisa and Greg were married under this ancient tree in front of their closest friends and relatives.
I caught the couple peering out at their arriving guests, anticipating what was to come!
Lisa, her dad, and the adorable flower girls drove up in a Gator. So adorable!
Usually I don’t blog family pictures, but this little firecracker was just the cutest. ROAR!
After the ceremony, Kristina, the couple, and I, drove up the road to a special area for portraits of the newlyweds. This gorgeous hidden area was the roaming grounds for Lisa as a child. It was a bright afternoon, but we made the best of it!
Lisa’s bouquet was inspired by the very wildflowers that grow in the Flint Hills
In lieu of a wedding cake, Lisa and Greg cut into a homemade cheesecake, while their guests enjoyed various pies. Delicious!
“Whose feet smell worse?” :)
Ok, I’ll admit it, I wanted to take this couple home. They were an absolute delight, so much in love, and hilarious!
