Several weeks ago, I got one of the best texts ever from Irvin, a friend and former colleague of my husband’s.
“Any suggestions on where to look at engagement rings?”
The sap in side of me did a happy dance. Then did so again when Irvin came over to hang out a couple weeks ago to discuss how he would propose, as my dear hubby thankfully had offered up my services (seriously, I love this stuff…)
He decided he wanted to propose on the Country Club Plaza, as they have spent a lot of time there as a couple. We met up at the JC Nichols fountain last week to plan it all out, and he had already started by asking a bunch of her friends to help out, including friends from out of town who were going to make an “impromptu” visit. He wanted to surprise Laura completely, so with the help of her friends, they devised a plan an *almost* foolproof plan (it involved quite of bit of lying…but hey…for a good cause!).
A couple nights before the proposal morning, I got a text from Irv. Thanks to their good friend Monika, who had watched the news, he found out that a race was planned for the exact same morning and was stopping around the fountain.
So…back to the drawing board. I met him up at Liberty Memorial the next day to re-plan, and with the assistance of quite a few of their friends, came up with possibly an even better plan than before. It would involve homemade “Will you Marry me” signs, Laura’s adorable terrier Wasabi in a tuxedo, a breakfast picnic overlooking Kansas City, and a lot of love and anticipation.

On a more personal note, Irvin and Laura, even though I’ve only hung out with them a handful of times, are two people you just KNOW will last beyond a lifetime. Their entire love story is something that has overcome and endured, and against all odds, nothing has stopped them from falling deeply in love and fighting for their beautiful relationship. I’m honored to know them and I know my husband feels the same way. We’re so excited to see where their lives together go from here, as this is just the beginning!
