Looking back, and looking forward…

What a year. Like the title suggests, I can’t begin to put it in words. I’ve been thinking about this blog post for 3 days. I used to be so good at words.. I guess I’m better now about turning feelings into photos.

Here are a few quips about my year though.

The biggest change was my husband and I’s move to Kansas City. (Overland Park to be exact) I am keeping my Lawrence photo studio, for now, but I also now meet my clients at my home office. I feel so much better about being able to meet in the area as it’ll definitely help me to branch out into the Kansas City wedding and senior markets. (moreso than before)

2014 was also a record year for the studio! I feel good saying that, but also nervous because now I have yet to do taxes (hah!). In April of 2014, I was also proud to announce that I had won the “Best of Lawrence” award for the second year in a row.  2015 is going to be ten times better, and thats saying something…it’s going to be hard to beat the last!

The rest of what I have to say is going to be summed up in a collection of my favorite photographs and/or moments I was lucky enough to capture.

I’ll start off on a personal note.  I absolutely love this picture of my husband and one of our dogs, Meika, hanging out together on the couch.  She’s just the biggest sweetheart. :)

The image below is of Joshua and Jennifer’s winter engagement session last February.  We may or may not have nearly backed into the pond after this sweet moment.  Great memories!

Courtney and Tyler’s engagement session was one of my yearly favorites.  All sorts of glory that day…perfect weather, lovely couple, Royal’s post season win, etc etc.  Loved it!

Olivia came to the studio from Salina, Kansas, and I can’t be more thrilled that she did.   I adore her entire session, but this one is probably my all time fave.

Logan and I met up last winter for a fun fashion shoot at the studio.

I captured this image of my brother’s lovely girlfriend Paige on a fun mid-winter shoot in Lawrence.

There wasn’t much I didn’t like about James and Rebecca’s engagement session in Wichita AND their wedding in Kansas City.  It was full of so much love…I can’t even describe it.  I love this moment after James sees her for the first time. :)

If I can, I always try to take a quiet moment with brides before the excitement of the day begins.  This image of Hiliary is just so soft and beautiful.  Love!

Last winter, I traveled to Breckenridge to photograph the engagement of a college friend, Vic, and his (now wife) Sarah.  We took photos around town while it was snowing in the morning, then the sky opened up on the hill so we took amazing photos at the top!  Carrying thousands of dollars worth of gear while snowboarding is one of the most nerve-wracking things I’ve ever done.  I’d do it again in a heartbeat. :)

I’ve known Morgan for quite some time.  In fact, I did a fun shoot with her and her mom years ago, not too long after I got started in photography.  Ironically enough, THAT image is still hanging in the studio, and is still one of my favorites too.  Now, Morgan is a SENIOR and about to graduate.

This image was captured at Firekeeper golf course at Abby (Towner) Wempe’s wedding in May, right before she walked down the “aisle” with her father Randy.

I met Diana I think in 2013, but she came back for another round of head shots earlier in 2014.  She is such a bright spirit to be around, and I’m so thankful for her support.  I just love this sassy image of her!

Ahh, what can I say about this image… it just grabs my heart.  Not only is the moment precious, but it’s between my best friend, Erin, and her sweet son from when I visited them in August.

While I was down in Texas visiting my friend Erin (above), we did a little photoshoot with a local high school senior.  I LOVE this dramatic cheerleading look!

This image was taken at Mildale Farm during Jennifer and Joshua’s September wedding.  After the father-daughter dance, he very sweetly kissed her hand as the family looked on.  Such a gentleman!

This moment goes down as the top First Look moment of 2014.  The minute Dalton saw his beautiful bride, Meghan, he just lost it.  (as did I)

Melissa, Chris and I went to Union Station for part of their fall engagement session.  This is the image they chose for a 16×24 gallery wrap.  It looks so cool!

Skyler went through my “Red Carpet” senior program, where clients actually receive two photoshoots.  This image was taken at her first shoot at her high school in Topeka.   She is an AMAZING opera singer and I can’t wait to see what is in store for her in the future!

Sweet Hannah!  She came up for her senior session this winter from Lebo, Kansas.  It was FREEZING outside but we were able to get some really great photographs of her.  I love the innocence of this one.

With the help of my assistant Lexi with the light, I was able to capture this image through Natalie and Michael’s get away car.  Perfect!

I had a LOT of favorite images from Drew and Melanie’s September wedding, but this is one of the Top 5.

Another from Drew and Melanie’s reception; I just adore this moment between the newlyweds, Melanie’s sister and nephew.

Genia came in to the studio this fall for a fun beauty session, just because!  As the mom of four rambunctious boys, she totally deserves it.  This is probably both our favorites!

This was the last frame I captured at Clayton and Jennifer’s wedding this fall.  It perfectly sums up the party that went down that evening. :)

I hope you enjoyed viewing just a taste of my favorite images from 2014!   I know I’ll probably find more, but this is a good start.  Thank you all so much for your support; it means the world to me!

Cheers to a healthy, happy, and prosperous 2015!
