Joe + Whitney | Married! | Kansas City Wedding Photographer

If any couple was meant to be, Joe and Whitney just about fit that mold.  These two met and fell in love in our nations capital, where they both currently reside.  Sounds simple enough, right?  Until you find out that they both went to the University of Missouri.  Never met.

Both had extended tours in China, at the same time.  Different reasons. Never met.

It was only after being introduced in DC that their stars finally crossed, and now they are wed.  What a fun day it was, too!  They took a risk getting married in the middle of the summer, but again, someone was on their side, because we had a beautiful spring-like day in early August.

I’m so happy to know these two, and I hope by viewing the next “faves” from their wedding day, you’ll get to know them a bit too.

Since the church is only a few blocks from Whitney’s childhood home, her and her family would walk together to church on Sunday’s. Since it was a beautiful day, it was important to recreate this special memory.

The girls had a pow-wow and said a prayer before walking down the aisle.

Whitney, on their musical choices for the day:  “We really wanted our songs to portray how thankful we are that God brought us together and how blessed we feel that He is always faithful.  Both of these songs captured those feelings.”

Whitney’s favorite memory from the big day!

“After all the formal parts of the day were complete, we had the best time celebrating with family and friends.  First Dance: We did the foxtrot to Frank Sinatra.  We took dance lessons and hade practiced for two months in an alleyway in DC.   It made our first dance magical and we did it perfectly!

Polka – the grooms family loves to polka.  At one point a polka song came on, and Joe and I were whirling around the dance floor polka-ing, surrounded by our parents, aunts, and uncles.

Dance Offs – The groom and his father had a dance-off to “Footloose.”  The bride and her bridesmaids danced to all their college throw-back songs, and the groom and his brother had a dance off to “500 Miles.”

Whitney’s mom and mom-in-law at the reception. Their two families blended PERFECTLY! They are all so much fun!

The awesome DJ’s played a game with the couple. Everyone at the reception made a huge circle around the dance floor, and Whitney and Joe had to see who could kiss or hug everyone the fastest!

Whitney’s advice for bride’s planning a wedding in a different city/state/country/etc!

“Ask for help – it is really difficult to take care of all the minute details from long-distance.  Find a point of contact on the ground – whether a family member, friend, or wedding planner.  (My Mom and Sisters planned the majority of my wedding and provided so much help!  Among many things, they actually did the reception site visits and sent us pictures so we could choose from DC).”
