BEHIND THE CAMERA
I’m Melissa, and I started this crazy journey in 2011 with the idea that my storytelling would eclipse typical wedding photography and move people through the art of photojournalism.
I absolutely love this medium not only because it gives me a creative outlet, but also because I get to be a part of so many incredible moments during such a special time in people's lives. It's a feeling like no other, and I'm eternally grateful for all those who have let me capture their wedding story in Kansas City and beyond. My work is fueled by that rush on a wedding day, the excitement and wonder between two people who are embarking on this journey together, and by artistic curiosity and drive to create images which will both captivate and put the viewer right in the moment.
I have a huge crush on traveling, getting lost, trying new things, and learning about the world, something my couples largely have in common as well. While I grew up here in this area, traveling has taken me on many adventures, as I'm an avid snowboarder, scuba diver, and hiker.
I live in Kansas City with my husband, Denver ("like the city", he'd be the first one to tell you), and our two dogs, Riley & Meika. While Riley is going to be the one eager to get your love and attention, should you want to meet him someday, Meika might be a little standoffish, but give her time and she'll warm up to you quite fast. They're our babies, and give me a chance to brag on them, and I will.

Real talk: My work is different. But awesome different.
Different in that I emphasize the importance of candid, documentary photography instead of overly posed, fake moments and trendy editing. Trends come and go, but the story we tell will last a lifetime. I have one main goal; to capture YOU and the ones who've gathered together to celebrate your union, and to do it with flair! During your wedding day, you'll find me documenting anything and everything happening. I'm not just there to get the obvious "big" moments, nor am I there to boss you around and get in the way of reality. I can't promise I'm just going to a "fly on the wall," because thats not where the emotion is, which is what will mean absolutely everything to you and your family as you reflect on your day. I will, however, promise to be there during the big AND small moments, to be constantly searching for and documenting your whirlwind day so your memories are preserved for generations.
While I’m documenting this history of your engagement and wedding day, I’m carefully using light, emotion, and my surroundings to tell your story in a fashion that, in 100 years, will allow the viewers (your children and grandchildren) to relive the day as if they were there. Not only that, but I have a blast doing it, and you will too! No two weddings are the same and I never treat them as such.
When you commission me to document your wedding day, you're not only hiring a photographer-for-a-day, but a trusted friend and confidant. I'd be absolutely honored to tell your story.
