Busker Festival – “Keeping Lawrence Weird” | Lawrence, Kansas, Kansas City Photojournalism

This past weekend was Lawrence’s own Busker Festival, which, according to the website, includes “some of the most talented freaks, geeks, artists and musicians around.”  Definitely not an exaggeration…there was a lot of strangeness going on downtown all weekend (well, when ISN’T there?)!  Also a ton of talent.  This 3 day festival gathered local, regional, national, and international street performers, and brought them to one famous street in northeastern Kansas.

On Sunday, Denver and I went down to watch the festivities, and I of course took my camera…if theres one thing all year that I MUST document…I’m pretty sure it’s this!  Check out this amazing collection of talent, and visit the artists websites by clicking on the links!

The Pogo Dudes were amazing!  Check them out and watch some of their videos…very cool!

Another thing I was VERY impressed with during this act, was how well the performers do at getting the crowd pumped up.  They manage to be funny and widely entertaining even though they are working extremely hard up on those pogo sticks!

The next performer was an absolutely incredible musician from Japan, Shibaten Spirits.  He is a worldly traveler musician with mulitple instruments, but especially the Digiridoo.  Sitting there listening to him was mesmerizing, almost making me feel like I was in an entirely different place, and his music bellowed throughout the entire downtown area.  I urge you to go view his profile and bio…he is truly an interesting character!

Miss Luna Breeze is a very talented performance hula hoop artist.  She combines the classic hula hoop with dancing, acrobatics, and entertainment.  She is native to the Kansas City area and was a blast to watch!

FIRE!!

The last act we saw was a hilarious magician, and much to my delight, my fiance Denver was handpicked to go assist Magi Bobby Maverick.  Bobby didn’t hold back with his jokes and humor, and I can’t imagine anyone not having an absolute blast during his show.  Very fun!

Ha!  I’m pretty sure he knows right here that he is going to pick Denver…look at that evil eye.

My soon-to-be husband doesn’t like his picture taken (“with your professional camera”).  Not sure why, he’s one good looking man, if I do say so myself!

Hope you enjoyed this post!!  Be sure to check out the websites, facebooks, and twitters of these awesome artists!
