Robert & Melissa’s Surprise Kansas City Plaza Wedding – Kansas City Wedding Photographer

Robert & Melissa’s Surprise Kansas City Plaza Wedding – Kansas City Wedding Photographer

Robert & Melissa, two of the sweetest, most fun loving people I’ve met and worked with, had been planning a surprise wedding for over a YEAR when it went off perfectly this summer!   Robert contacted me last summer after I had photographed the wedding of their close friends, Abby & Scott Wempe, telling me about how they wanted to plan a surprise wedding in Kansas City, as they were nearly burnt out from their huge network of friends’ weddings, week after week.  Even though they both love weddings, it just wasn’t for them. They knew they’d like to go all out on their honeymoon (and they did…a 2 week European vacation!), so they brought together their closest family and got married in quiet St. Joseph’s church in Shawnee, then followed it up with a dinner at Brio on the Country Club Plaza.  All day long, after they posted a photo on social media, they were receiving shocked calls and texts, and it was so fun listening in to their friends’ reactions!  While we were walking around the plaza for portraits, we ran in to two of Melissa’s friends, go figure!  The look of disbelief was so perfect, and I couldn’t help but feel honored to be one of the few people who knew. :)

All in all, they are master tricksters…there is NO way I could keep such an enormous secret for so long!

Because this wasn’t a typical wedding, Robert and Melissa got ready together at the Intercontinental Hotel. It was so perfect!

As we were walking around, we saw Melissa’s friend out shopping. She could hardly believe what was actually happening!

After posting a photo to social media in their wedding attire, the calls and texts started rolling in.

Pledge Bob, although we can’t call you that anymore as you have become a real man. A big congrats to you and your beautiful wife. Treat her well and cherish the time you have together.
